More on Friday's writing workshop
Dear friends of Southern Peninsula Arts Centre,
This Summer we have two special opportunities on offer for children. Illustrator Myke Mollard will be visiting and running a practical session on ‘Drawing Bush Creatures’ and author Wendy Orr will be working with children on ‘Turning Ideas into Stories.’ To book go online www.rsc.vic.edu.au and follow the Buy Tickets link.
Thursday 21 January 10am-11:30am
Learn about our native bush creatures as children's book illustrator Myke Mollard gives an introduction on how to draw them.
This How to Draw workshop has been inspired by the beautifully illustrated book, An A-Z of Australian Bush Creatures. Illustrator Myke Mollard breaks down his drawing process into several easy steps.
This workshop offers a fantastic opportunity to get a closer look at Myke’s illustration style - full of fun, colour and life. Equally engaging are the insights into the Bush Creatures themselves. This workshop is not only a celebration of the skill of drawing, but also highlights the beauty and diversity of Australia’s unique wildlife. Myke delivers a journey of discovery that will delight and educate children of all ages. Tickets $22
Friday 22 January 10am-11:30am
This workshop will use a fun and interactive approach for the students to write the framework of a story and give them suggestions on finding ideas, keeping stories interesting, and the importance of editing. They will have access to pages of different drafts of the author's manuscripts and proof copies, to see the stages of a book's development.
Wendy Orr’s first book, Amanda’s Dinosaur, was published in 1988. Twenty more have followed, including Peeling the Onion, Ark in the Park and Leaving it to You. Her books have been widely awarded and are published around the world. From 2003 Wendy worked on the film adaptation of her book Nim’s Island, which was released in 2008 as a Hollywood feature film starring Jodie Foster, Abigail Breslin and Gerard Butler; the sequel Nim at Sea is now under option to the same studio. Workshop tickets $22
